Galerie Quynh is pleased to welcome French-born artist Truc-Anh for Activity/Passivity, an artist’s talk that coincides with CROIRE/DOUTER (BELIEF/DOUBT), Truc-Anh’s first solo exhibition in Asia.
Activity/Passivity will be divided into two parts:
Part One: Truc-Anh will discuss audience reactions to his work in Vietnam. He will examine the relevance of painting to contemporary society and the notions of active and passive viewing. While society is conditioned to see the same easy-to-consume images over and over, painting requires the viewer to pause, contemplate, and interrogate what is seen. The necessity for engagement is amplified in Truc-Anh’s paintings in CROIRE/DOUTER as the presence of ambiguous forms and uncertain narratives prevents the viewer from an easy consumption of images.
Part Two: Truc-Anh will respond to questions regarding the works chosen for the exhibition. This informal discussion will allow you to ask questions about the exhibition, the artworks shown and the artist’s experiences working both here in Vietnam and abroad.
